Maria Kang pictured with her 3 sons (ages 8 months, 2 years, and 3 years) |
One of the controversial topics that this photo prompted a lot of discussion about was the writing at the top of the photo, "what's your excuse?"
I really do not understand why this is bringing so much criticism... I post pictures all the time related to fitness telling people to stop making excuses and get their a$$ moving! So do thousands of coaches, trainers, and fitness enthusiasts that I know!
The anger stems from the fact that people are saying that she is calling out the out of shape, overweight moms and saying they are fat as well as saying that they are making excuses and lying about the fact they don't have time, money, etc.
Listen here people.... This year The American Heart Association found that 154.7 MILLION people 20 years of age and older are overweight or obese! 74.8 MILLION of those people over 20 are WOMEN!!!
Maria is now having to defend herself from simply posting an inspiring and motivational photo exhibiting all of her hard work and dedication while including her adorable children. She said in an interview with a new channel, "I did not call you fat..." She should not have to defend herself, the statistics don't lie.
For what ever reason Maria feels the need to sugar coat the facts. I do not know her profession, so maybe she does not know the statistics. But, I do and I will say it loud and clear.. AMERICA, you are FAT!!! (Men and women included)
I also want to touch a little on the area of excuse making since I have first hand accounts of fitness and health related excuse making. I deal with people EVERYDAY who make excuses about why they cannot be healthy or fit, cannot find the time to exercise, why it is too expensive to be healthy, and why they haven't started yet. They are excuses!! Not saying that people are avoiding health and fitness, but for whatever reason they find these 'reasons' that they cannot. Well... in reality, if you want it bad enough you will find a way! (If not you will find an excuse!) You may say you want to do something but actions speak much louder that words!
At the same time though, I do understand that it is NOT everyone's goal, dream, or desire to be fit. But, it was Maria's goal and she did it!! But as a whole our country does need to be healthier or insurance and medical costs will only continue to increase and the American life expectancy will decrease. That does not mean that everyone has to be fit, a bodybuilder, or be on the gym 7 days a week. It just means that we as Americans need to make better choices and set better examples for generations to come!
I live a fit lifestyle and that is MY choice. I also teach tons of others. How to live fit lifestyles and I can honestly tell you it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life! The reason I choose to live this way is for my own satisfaction and to also teach my children that it is just as quick and easy to be healthy as it is to go through the drive thru!
This topic has prompted me to begin developing something to start helping a lot more people understand how to be healthy, so keep an eye out for that on my YouTube channel (search Jenette Begue to find it! ).
That's all for now! Talk to you all soon!
